The Indigenous Collective Jupago Kreká and the Association of the Indigenous Community of Xukuru do Ororubá, in partnership with the Indigenous Peoples Unit of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (PSUI), have been implementing restoration activities based on the Indigenous Peoples’ Biocentric Restoration methodology since 2024. Grounded in the principles of Regenerative Cosmonucleation, the initiative seeks to strengthen sacred and ecological points of life within the Xukuru territory, restoring the energy of Mother Earth and reconnecting ecosystems through ecological corridors. A key component of this work is the restoration of sacred rock formations, accelerating natural regeneration processes and recovering unique biodiversity associated with these spiritually significant sites. Since the official recognition of the Xukuru territory in 2002, the Xukuru people have been working to restore ecosystems affected by historical processes of colonization and environmental degradation. Through this initiative, more than 100 hectares have already been restored, with over 60,000 native trees planted from more than 110 species, alongside actions to encourage refaunation, especially focused on birds and pollinators as key agents of regeneration.
